Over 600 Local and Overseas Institutions Bring an Entire Spectrum of Courses

The Hong Kong International Education Expo, organised by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA), opened today at The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Hall (Hall 1C). This two-day event brings together representatives from more than 600 local, Taiwan and foreign educational institutions from 17 countries and regions under one roof, helping visitors to chart their future. It would be of interest to school leavers, parents, working adults, members of the industry and the general public seeking higher education opportunities.

The opening ceremony held this morning had the privilege to have Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Education, Hermes Tang, Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Au Ka Wang, Director of Immigration, Professor Lam Kwan Sing, President of the Open University of Hong Kong, Woo Ying Ming, Commissioner of Correctional Services, Leung Wai Hung, Director of Fire Services, and Steven Ma, the promotional ambassador of the Expo as the Guests of Honour. In his welcoming speech, CMA President Dr Allen Shi said, “For many months now, thousands of students have been patiently working hard at home and online. Finally, they have the opportunity, along with their parents, to meet face to face with education experts at our Expo and discuss in detail any queries they may have.”

President Dr Shi stressed the importance of keeping our skills sharp and up-to-date in a rapidly changing market. He noted that there are two trends that young people need to know: digital transformation and national development strategies. “For instance, the ubiquitous role of new technologies in various sectors has created exponential demand for tech talent. Despite there is an increasing number of exciting technology jobs, the local talent pool lacks relevant skills to keep up with the demand, weakening the city’s readiness to re-industrialise and diversify.” He hopes that students and their parents develop an open mind to embrace new perspectives about selection of study pathways as it may unlock doors of opportunity.

CMA office-bearers including CMA Vice President cum Chairman of CMA Exhibition Services Limited Mr Ivan Sze, Legislative Council Representative the Hon Jimmy Ng, CMA Executive Vice President Dr Wingco Lo, CMA Vice Presidents Mr Simon Wong, Mr Dennis Ng Kwok On, Dr Ma Kai Yum, Mr Jackson Leung, and Mr Robert Lok also attended today’s opening ceremony.

Apart from finding the latest information about colleges and universities, visitors can also attend career development seminars conducted by celebrities, including Dr David Wong, Chairman of the Council of the Education University of Hong Kong, Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Mr Steven Ma, the promotional ambassador of the Expo, Ms Ellen Mok, the fingerprint profiling trainer, and other educators.

The opening hours will be from noon to 6 pm on 29 to 30 May. Members of the public are welcome to visit and admission is free. Special on-the-spot offers such as a free portrait photography service, a sanitizer pack, a free language proficiency test, and other souvenirs, will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
